Diversity and Inclusion

India is a country with many facets, and just like in a diamond, it adds beauty to our culture. We Indians are very much keen in admiring the beauty within diversity and are very tolerant when it comes to accommodating different culture and ethnicity. Even our constitution is very liberal when it comes to being inclusive, and ensures that no one is left behind and everyone is on the same page. It just awes and bewilders  one when he tries to understand the dynamics of our population and how we manage to put aside all our differences and join hands to run the country. But no system is free from corruption and we do have some bitter examples that should be analysed and learnt from.

Speaking about being inclusive, it is pretty important in a democracy to look after the fact that everyone is assured equal treatment. It shouldn't just work on the principle that everyone should be part of the decision making process, and most importantly, everyone should be given equal preference in deciding what is to be done. The reservation system followed in our nation is one important way to keep things on check. It helps people who were oppressed once to come out of their shells and be at par alongside people who are gifted from the very beginning, and I'm personally inclined towards this idea of equality.

But I would like to add in my humble suggestion to this system. At people are segregated according to their communities and the provisions are provided to them considering these groups. But the major flaw in this system is that, at present, the caste and creed of people doesn't really affect one's accessibility to opportunities. It may be true that in the past, oppression due to caste inferiority was a major issue and people who are degraded really required a helping hand to be lent. This can even be true now at very remote locations where literacy rate is not very bright. But to the most, the present day's system is not the same case. We can't really put a people of a certain community under a discrete box.

I believe that the only solution to this prevalent issue is still reservation, but with some slight tweaks. As aforementioned, the problem with the current reservation system is the fact that its community based. The solution would be to lend provisions to people who are economically lagging behind. This is because money is the major ticket to every commodity and service today and people won't mind if you are from a backward community if you are economically sound. And this translates to even getting a undeserved job by bribing corrupt officials while a more deserving but poor candidate loses the same opportunity.

In a nutshell, the beauty in our nation's diversity is impeccable and our constitution is scripted to near perfection when it comes to being inclusive. But with a little updates and upgrades, I can really bet that India can claim itself to be developed within 2020 as our Honorable Dr.Kalam sir envisioned it to be. So let us become more sensible in tolerating with co-existence of different people and be empathetic enough let everyone be included and excel.
