The Smiles lost behind Smileys

The impact of social media on day-to-day communication

Gone are the days when people waited for letters patiently for days together. The technology of 21st century has given us the luxury to lavishly send messages to our dear ones. This texting fever has gotten into our nerves so much so that teenagers of present day find it easier to talk through the digital medium and prefer it over face to face communication. Even though social media platforms have numerous advantages with respect communication, that's just one side of the coin. As mentioned, teenagers prioritise texting over talking with each other, which in my opinion, deters the strength of the relationships that they build. To elaborate, even though people had to wait days to get a letter from their loved ones, if you ask an adult who did the same, their reply would be that the wait was fruitful. In essence, they know how much it took to communicate and know the value of every word they receive through a letter.

But today's advancements may have improved the means of communication, but has failed in letting people know the value and efforts that it takes to communicate. Texts aren't took seriously for the most part and people find it difficult to communicate face to face as they are used to social media. people nowadays fail to embrace the happiness that a good heart-to-heart talk can give and trade it for the accessibility of social media. So in a nutshell, one can't embrace the value of everything they get if the means is easy.

So let's go out, talk with people, bring out the out the smiles which were long lost behind smileys and embrace the reality that we forgot to live in.
